Chef Maria Elena and Ignacio Perez, the wife and husband duo of the six-year-old Oakland-based CHICA, closed the doors of their small beloved neighborhood establishment in 2022 as they geared up for their new full service restaurant XICA, along the Embarcadero at Levi's Plaza. XICA is a Chicana style restaurant serving Mexican flavors with a Bay Area-influence for brunch, lunch and dinner, along with specialty cocktail beverages.
Super yummy, super fresh. You can really tell everything was made in-house. There was something for everyone on the menu, so my family of four left full and happy.
We had fish tacos 5/5, tuna tostada 5/5 (incredible with the contrast of the sweet potatoes with spice inside the pocket, loaded with tuna, and contrasting slaw), and fried chicken 5/5.
Really cool spot! In a new building in an up and coming area. We ordered the queso, the chicken tinga entrée and fish tocs. Everything was really good. Great flavor and fresh ingredients. My girlfriend and I both got hibiscus margaritas, which were also bomb. Definitely recommend trying this place out if you're in the neighborhood.
FINALLY! A beautiful Mexican restaurant serving excellent classic food and cocktails. The space occupied by Xica is in the former Il Fornaio, in Levis Plaza. The main dining room is spacious and conservatory-like, with large live plants and colorful murals. We had the 'classic' margarita, it did not disappoint. The glasses were rimmed with a spicy tamarind salt. Guacamole with chips is excellent, as good as if I had made it.
XICA restaurant in San Francisco is a must-try for anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Mexican meal, especially if you have dietary restrictions. I was particularly impressed with the quality of the food and the fact that they have a gluten-free kitchen. XICA is also kid friendly.
